Hi, everyone! My name is Melissa Brooks. I am a certified holistic health coach, a sales associate at a local specialty running store, a fitness fanatic, health food nut, and apparently… a blogger. I love trying out new workouts, and designing creative detoxes and diets. Many of my posts will be about interesting nutrition and fitness topics that I will investigate and bring to your attention. I will be using this blog to post about new health trends, cool workouts, delicious and healthy recipes, as well as other motivational and wellness suggestions.
A little more about me…
I am working towards a certification as an ACSM Personal Trainer, but am currently certified by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition as a holistic health coach. I am also registered by the American Association for Drugless Practitioners.
I was an all-season athlete in high school, and trained in kick-boxing on the side. In college I was a gym rat, personal trainer, and played in multiple co-ed soccer leagues. Even with tons of physical activity, my energy was low, I gained weight, and just didn’t feel great. I changed my major to study nutrition, and finally found the missing piece in my health! I graduated from The University of Maryland, College Park, with a B.S. in Dietetics (aka Nutrition) and a full knowledge of food and its effects on the body. I was on the path to become a dietician, but hospital life wasn’t for me. That is when I decided to become a health coach to teach people how to use food for disease prevention, instead of drugs for disease treatment.
My goal is to help people understand how simple it can be to make easy lifestyle changes for a healthier and happier life.
